Washington, DC - First District Congressman Gil Gutknecht today issued the following statement regarding House passage of H.R. 3313, the Marriage Protection Act of 2004:

"It should be noted that this entire debate was precipitated by a handful of liberal judges. Who would have guessed ten years ago that the Congress would be forced to define and defend the institution of marriage? But, we have, and I trust we will."
